IDS18 HIGHLIGHTS + SPRING TRENDS

IDS [Interior Design Show] Toronto never disappoints. In it's 20th year the show was a full schedule of successful industry speakers and vendor exhibits from both new and familiar companies.
A few of the big trends showcased included; customizable tiles, mixing prints and one of my personal favourites - graffiti art. The hand knotted graffiti rugs by Finlay & Kath Inc. [4th photo] would give any space a very cool vibe.

We are seeing 3D printing becoming more and more popular in the design world. The pendants [6th photo] are by a new Vancouver based company that creates 3D printed light fixtures - they were all absolutely stunning!

At the back of the conference centre there was a market area featuring creative fashion and home products. I found some really interesting pieces here, one of my faves being these ceramic/porcerlain pieces.
As per usual, IDS was a great event & I'm looking forward to the Fall edition out West!

Spring is the perfect time to freshen up your decor. Here are a few of my pro tips for Spring/Summer 2018...

[PAINT] Painting has a huge impact on the look of a home both on the interior and exterior. Choosing the right colour for the exposure and what makes you happy is an important element.
The Benjamin Moore colour of the year is Caliente, a beautiful rich red. We are also seeing a lot of browns, pinks and golds making a come back. As popular as they may be, these colours are very bold and will look out of date within a couple of years. Instead, I suggest incorporating these hues into accent pieces rather than painting them on your walls. There are over 150 white hues to choose from that provide a timeless background for these bold colours in your art and decor.

[DECOR] The easiest way to switch up a space is to change out your accessories/art/toss cushions. Decor trends for SS18 include; ornate details, black and white pattern, hues, artisan textures, metallic accents and botanical prints. Think airy, artisan and a lot of art!

[PLANTS] Add some greenery to each space whether it's with real or faux. Some of our go-to's this year include: small or clustered Succulents, Cacti, Twigs, Palms, and Orchids.
The top floral colour trends this season are: lavender [any purple is huge!], pinks, deep reds and white.
The hottest flowers are: bi-coloured Roses in peaches/pinks, Amaryllis, Peonies, Ranunculus in either deep, moody colours or light pastels.
Trailing plants are back in full force [hello 1970's] Pull our your hanging baskets and cluster them indoors and out.

[TEXTILES] We are going to be seeing a lot of high contract finishes and materials. Black and White is back in a bold way.
Trending patterns & textures are: animal prints, micro florals, over scaled moody florals, tropical, geometric, contrasting stripes, woven, velvet, jute, modern plaids, and sleek or slubby linens.
Popular colours this season include: purple, green, blush, reds, metallics and warm neutrals.
Whether you are completely changing up your decor, or switching out/adding a few pieces, these will be a refreshing update to any space.
