As a creative type, I find inspiration from my surroundings; art, nature, food, music, travel etc. This design was inspired by two breathtaking Villages we explored on a trip to southeastern France.
I fell in love with the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur Region. Each Village/City has a uniqueness and abundance of history. My fave place being a limestone village filled with warm whites and lush Mediterranean plants called Gordes. Another one of my favourite places in that region is the Ochre Village of Roussillon, France. Roussillon is also located on a ridge looking out to a beautiful valley. Surrounding Roussillon are hills and cliffs made of orange/red clay, therefore the entire village is made with these rich hues. From the top of a nearby cliff, you can take in the 360 degree view of the village that looks like a permanent sunset - it's gorgeous!
This project incorporates the textures of the white village of Gordes and the vibrant oranges of Roussillon. We chose textured off white Travertine for the fireplace feature walls, as it looks very similar to the Limestone village of Gordes. The draperies and paint colour pallets and beautiful Granite countertops also incorporate the off whites.
To add a pop of colour, we chose a rich orange for the Club Chair, Toss Cushions and other accents which is similar to the oranges of the Roussillon. The Living room and Kitchen Fireplace surrounds also tie in the orange with a decorative Copper detail.
The colour pallet is grounded by architectural light fixtures in an Oil Rubbed Bronze finish.
We designed the floral arrangement for the dining table to incorporate similar plants of this Mediterranean region. The pattern in hardwood floors adds another element of nature into this home. The final outcome of this project is a contemporary style with touches of Europe. If you are in the Paris area, I highly recommend heading down south to explore this area of France.
