I may be a little ambitious for wearing skirts and showing my midriff already, but I am too ready for Spring to arrive! As florals make their annual visit off the runway and into our closets, we are going to be seeing a big 70's and 90's comeback. Personally, I am drawn to big, bold abstract florals over Laura Ashley style micro-florals. As popular as the 70's are this season, there are also various design houses who executed stunning contemporary florals that make a big statement. Lanvin, Roksanda, Marni and Dries Van Noten created edgy collections playing with large scale and contrasting colours. Some of my fave SS 17 R-T-W looks came from Dries Van Noten's show. I love the looks with solid backgrounds and bursts of vibrant flowers. Modern florals are so chic for any occasion this SS.
It can be a challenge to find edgy floral prints/patterns for those with a more contemporary aesthetic. When I found this midi skirt, it immediately reminded me of those stunning Van Noten pieces walking down the runway. Between the colours and style, it is definitely a statement skirt. The fabric is a thicker, neoprene-like (not rubber) fabric with a large pleat falling around the mid-calf, creating a feminine A-line silhouette. The vibrant mix of colours allow it to be worn with almost anything, however I wanted to enhance the white for  Spring. I also love the 90's style mesh that Van Noten put out this season. The mesh jacket combines a sportswear and high fashion vibe. The masculine texture of the mesh paired with the femininity of the skirt creates a fresh, bold look for day-to-dinner.
